We opted for the Self-Catering beach bungalows. What to
Expect?
- Rustic yet comfortable (I do not, and can’t emphasize
this enough, do camping). This was a pleasant step above.
- Your own bungalow
- Bedding provided
- Honeymooners, be prepared for the horror of TWIN BEDS!
- Showers with hot running water
- Toilets that flush and cisterns that refill (those en
route to Guinjata are not pretty)
- A kitchenette with a fridge, all basic utensils and
crockery
- Electricity until 9pm and then its lights out after that
guys, or carry a paraffin lamp (lamps provided)
- Local pub and restaurant, should you not wish to
self-cater, with decent food and very decent Hunters Dry’s.
- Awesome scenery, white sands and warm water
- Excellent snorkelling and diving
- Total seclusion if you don’t go in peak season
- Absolute Safety
- Awesome souvenirs

Guinjata Bay Resort
The Irritation Factor?
Undoubtedly the cleaner assigned to your bungalow.
At any given second of the day, she lurks in your peripheral
vision. This chick cooks her food on your stove, parks off on
your stairs…I secretly think it’s her own hut that she rents out
for extra cash. (But hey! At least there’s a cleaner)
What to bring?
- Mosquito nets! Unbelievably, there are none provided.
- Jellyfish bite cream – the little buggers are more
visible than the cleaner
- Chocolate and chips, there are no Ghost Pops in
Mozambique
Cost?
Guinjata Bay is completely affordable, offering the
self-catering bungalows in the region of R700 per night for a
bungalow that sleeps 4 people. (others sleep 4 -8)
You may be lucky enough to catch them having a special, where
you’ll stay for R100 per person per night. There are
various other options from full board and lodging to camping
underneath their thatched camp sites…but whatever you choose, be
prepared for a safe, romantic and affordable Holiday in this
African Island paradise that is Mozambique.
