Ok, you Joburgers are wondering about safety right? I did too.
It took my at least a week to relax and stop pondering that
we’re out in the middle of deep dark Africa with not a policeman
in sight. We’re in a poor country where anyone could kill us for
our car and nobody would know. There is no cell phone signal,
how would we call for assistance if we got attacked or hijacked?
It didn’t help that Frank stopped at a local African market.
I felt like I was in downtown Somalia. The car stopped and
African’s rushed to it, ready to sell their wares.
I thought they wanted the car.
At my window, was a man holding a baby out to me on his
forearm. I was horrified that I’d found myself in the kind of
market where they sell babies. What next? Gorilla hands?
He was showing me that he had a little mouth to feed,
therefore if I bought, to buy from him.
So what are the Locals like?

- Hard working
- Approachable
- Everyone looks like they’re on holiday! People adorn the
streets, sit in sidewalk café’s
- Bicycles are BIG!
- Creative – their hand crafted souvenirs, paintings,
unusual shells are delightful
